All units are built using your core or are available from Layne outright without exchange for an additional charge.
Most units can use virtually any clutch including OEM and single disks, and can be built inside an OEM case.
Unless otherwise noted, all units have at least 2 working forward gears and an operable reverse,
some configurations available with all 4 gears operable too.

Layne Lightened 2 Speed Muncie Transmission
Layne lightens the basic unit including removal of 1st and second gears, machining and lightening of cluster. This eliminates excess rotating mass and reduces horsepower loss from unnecessary gears moving in the lubricant.

We can also optionally lighten the reverse gear and main shaft to eliminate 3-4 additional pounds of rotating weight.

Layne Low Drag racing version. This includes a new heat treated 8620 chrome moly input shaft and cluster gear that provides a 1.75 to 1 low gear in the 3rd gear location to allow starting out with virtually any clutch. Lightening of the main shaft is also included.

No fumbling with shifters, as one lever smoothly shifts from low to high gear, fully downshiftable.

Heavy cars are no longer a problem to get rolling. Why smoke your clutch when you can smoke the competition.

This is perfect for heavy cars that have trouble getting started from a dead stop. These are one tough unit.

 

Available with optional lightened reverse gear.

Includes a new heavy duty front bearing, gasket set and Laynes 8620 heat treated moly input shaft and cluster gear.

This is a direct replacement for OEM stuff that is broke, missing or otherwise unusable. And you get the reliability of the good guy parts and that 1.75 to 1 low gear in the 3rd gear location. One shifter from low to high and will allow movement of the heaviest of race cars.

Layne ULTIMATE Low Drag 2 Speed Muncie Transmission

Layne ULTIMATE Low Drag racing version totally redefines the word "PERCEPTION". You will not see any detail pictures of this or be able to see it at the trade shows.

All I will say publicly about this is it has a 1.75 to 1 low gear and once in high gear it is the lowest drag, lowest rotating mass transmission that is legal in virtually ALL divisions. And it is totally OEM appearing on the outside with all the trickery hidden inside the stock OEM case, including Laynes patented disconnnect..

Uses almost any chevy splined clutch including OEM single disks, and mini clutches too. Your competition and the tech guy will swear it is a stock old muncie when they see it in the car, but you will know the difference on the track.

At just 8 1/2 inches overall diameter, this is the smallest IMCA Mod legal flywheel available today. Bolts directly to the crank.. Comes with the highest torque auto starter available today, delivering 4.4 Kw of cranking power.

** SPRINT CAR RACERS L@@K ** We have tested our 8 to 5 starter and flywheel combo all season in a sprinter and it will turn over a high compression motor out of gear at 1000 rpm and crank at over 600 rpm in gear. This allows the car to be self starting, and the starter has not failed all season.

 

We also offer an update to our existing M1-Sniper customers that will allow the use of this setup.
